Mavin Maverick began her life in the Elven kingdom of Engasa. Her father was King Garrin of Engasa and her mother was G'Naya, Wise Woman of Engasa. From the beginning, Mavin was prone to bad luck. G'Naya was once a beautiful woman, known through out the land of Engasa as the best healer, and wisest of their people. King Garrin came to her one day, and became enchanted by her beauty. He wanted G'Naya, and what the King wanted, he got.
The King needed an heir to his throne, and G'Naya, though she cared little for him, gave him a son, which they named Ronnal. Ronnal was the pride of his father, and G'Naya wanted something to spite the King with. She tricked him into mating with her again, and she later gave birth to Mavin. Mavin's purpose was merely to anger the King, but instead he paid little attention to her, spending his time training Ronnal for the throne he would eventually inherit. Ronnal admired Mavin though, and taught her many forest skills. Then the war came.
King Garrin had possession of three stones, which held great power. The stones could only be touched and used by those of Garrin's bloodline, meaning only Garrin, Ronnal, and Mavin could use them. No one knew where the stones came from, but they were powerful...far too powerful. As King Garrin used the stones, he slowly lost his mind. He started a war with the kingdom of Fren. Through his fear and insanity, he sent Ronnal and Mavin to the forests of SOE to live until the war ended. He sent with Ronnal, the yellow stone, which gave the user the power shift into any species of cat. With Mavin, he sent the blue stone, which had the power of change the user into any kind of bird. Garrin kept the red stone for himself, and it had the power of change the user into any kind of serpent. Together the three stones allowed the user to become a powerful, and nearly invincible dragon.
Mavin and Ronnal grew up in the forests of SOE, hunting and living from the land, thinking little of their heritage. They would receive notes on occasion from Engasa, saying the war was still raging, and it was not safe for them to return. Then, one day, the notes stopped coming.
It was about this time, when things began to go truly wrong for Mavin. Ronnal grew increasingly more unstable as the word from their home did not come. One night he left Mavin, stealing the blue stone. It was about this time she met, and fell in love with Dartran Elzinga, an Elf of SOE. She spent some time with him, but knew she had to return to her home, and find out what was happening. Though very reluctant she left Dartran, and went back to Engasa, finding out more there than she wanted to know. Ronnal had returned to the land and had killed King Garrin, taking the red stone into his possession. Ronnal became the dragon, and with the Engasa army he defeated Fren. There was much destruction to both sides.
Ronnal did not stop there, however. He took over Engasa, enforcing atrocities on the Elves of the land. Mavin knew she had to stop him. She stole the three stones from Ronnal, and ran back to SOE, hoping to hide from him, with the help of Dartran...who's child she was also carrying... She told Dartran everything except about the baby, because she knew she would likely have to use the stones on Ronnal. Using the power of the stones would likely kill the child she had inside her, and she could not bear allowing Dartran that pain. She did have to face Ronnal, and use the stones. Through a fierce battle, she defeated her brother, killing him...and the child, which was the first thing to destroy her life. She never told Dartran of the child, until many years later...
Things began to fall further apart after the battle. The stones drove Mavin insane, begging her to use them. Mavin had always been weak of mind, and she crumbled to the stones. Dartran was no longer around to help her through this time, and she trusted no one. She tried to convince Lucifer to give her a child, so her bloodline could hold the stones, and have the powers of Darkness to guide them. She was fortunate that this did not happen, but Lucifer did take Dartran, destroying him mentally. With no one to pass the stones onto, Mavin was open to give the stones to their rightful owner, as they had come full circle back to the family that had created them. With the help of the people of Beware, Mavin was brought back to her senses, and the stones were given away.
Dartran and Lucifer had both disappeared and Mavin found herself alone in the world. But they were not gone for good. After a very short time together, Dartran and Lucifer reappeared. Even through the darkness, Mavin still loved Dartran, and went to Lucifer to make a deal. She promised to give Lucifer other souls in trade for Dartran. Lucifer agreed but the plan fell through, causing Lucifer to make a different deal instead. He said if she kept Dragoness away from him, and Soren Lan Diablo loyal to him, she could have Dartran back.
Mavin agreed to the deal, but Dartran disappeared once more, and she could not handle the terrible things she had done. Mavin began to starve herself, and not eating becoming a life-long habit for her.
Eventually Lucifer reappeared. He captured Mavin, and raped her, placing his dark seed in her. He said if she killed the child, he would take her again, and if she killed herself, he would keep her body alive until the child was born. She was stuck. To keep Mavin and the child safe, she was put to sleep during her pregnancy.
The child, son of Mavin and Lucifer, was called Ephron. Ephron, the only thing she had left in her life, was stolen from her by the Infinity, who was working for Lucifer. This made Mavin go completely insane, and she reverted back to her childhood. She stayed with M'tronas during this time, and was very happy, lost in her own little world. While she was gone, J'Arellius, the Drow King, retrieved Ephron from Infinity. Infinity was later put to death for giving Ephron to the Drow. J'Arellius taught Ephron in the ways of the Drow, because the boy looked like a Drow, and Mavin had asked J'Arellius if would do so before Ephron was captured. J'Arellius presented a full grown Ephron to Mavin, making her face reality, and bringing her back to her senses.
The events of Mavin's life, put her in sorry shape...she barely ate, she drank too much, she slept with anyone willing. But through it all, she kept close to Ephron, as if he were her only anchor.
And then, Ephron left. Lucifer had returned, and made threats against Mavin if she continued to keep Ephron from him. Ephron decided the best way to protect Mavin, and others he was close to, was to go with Lucifer. Mavin rarely sees Ephron now, and this has become a great pain in her heart that she rarely speaks of. The Demon Argentile, half-brother of Ephron has tortured Mavin a number of times in the belief that she can lead him to Ephron.
Mavin has died several times since she came Beware. In those three times, she was always brought back by someone who couldn't stand to let her be. After the third time, she became a minion of death...neither dead nor alive, and able to take the souls of those who were dying. To bring her back to the living, a riddle had to be solved. This riddle involved Mavin becoming pregnant once again, and with the help of Simon Lyger, an Elf that claimed to love her. Simon disappeared shortly after Mavin became pregnant, and she was captured by dark influences. The child within her was replaced with a nest of spider eggs, and the child was placed in a jar to continue to grow. Mavin found her way out of her prison, the child was eventually rescued, and the spiders removed from her.
This child was named Phauks, but like all others in Mavin's life, she wasn't destined to remain in Beware for long. Lucifer was not at all pleased to see Mavin have any happiness. With the help of Dartran Elzinga, Lucifer had Phauks stolen. The Elf and the Demon raised Phauks, teaching to use her inborn magics for the will of Darkness. This made a rift between Phauks and Mavin which has never been sealed.
Mavin lives in more or less obscurity now. She spent a great deal of time drinking, though the alcohol had no real effect on her. It was a mental denial of the pain she had experienced over the years. Only recently did she finally give up the drink. She now spends her time wandering Beware, and making the occasional appearance to wax poetic.
