Iledwyn was born to Mordik and Quenela Eldenmare. Mordik was a farmer who grew a variety of crops. Quenela was a simple woman who kept a clean house and was a typical farmer's wife. They were simple people, who enjoyed the hard work of keeping crops. Iledwyn grew up an only child but not a spoiled one.

Returning from the local village with his mother they could not find his father. Usually Mordik was home, drinking ale, when the sun was beginning to set. Returning just after dark, they did not find him. The next morning, Iledwyn found him dead in the furthest of their fields. It has always been assumed he was killed by some maurading band, probably orcs, but that will never be known for sure. Being the 'man' of the family, he took over running the farm. His mother, heartbroken, was never the same. She slowly withered, Iledwyn believed her ill, until one night she died in her sleep. She is buried next to his father on the land they had kept.

Iledwyn, in a fit of anger over his loss, took up a torch. When he was done, his family home was nothing more then smoldering rubble, the fields blackened where they had burned out, and he had nothing but the pack on his back.

Setting out, with his dog Porthos and horse Mithras, he began exploring the wider world. He was very much an innocent in the world, something that has changed due to recent events.
