The Temple of Artemis is relatively young in comparison to other buildings in the realm, and blessed. In times of disaster it is a haven to those seeking healing, enlightenment and shelter.
When Omerta fell so many years ago, destroyed by fire and foul magic, Omertians were sheltered on the lands surrounding the Temple of the moon goddess Artemis, given food and healing.
When a woman flees brutality, it is there she will go for safety.
When abandoned children are found in the village, the woods and surrounding lands, it is to the temple steps they are brought, sheltered and taught by the High Priestess and her acolytes until they are of age to survive on their own.

There are many stories, legends and tales concerning the Temple's protectors, known only as the Furies to those outside it's marbled pillars. It is said that within the holy Temple are fierce woman with the family name of Rose who protect those within, and in the surrounding lands. That matriarch is a woman of unnatural height, taller than most men and a fierce nature, known only by the name of Oriencor. Some gaffers and old timers insist she was an over large wolf that has always hunted in the Dark Woods, others that she was cursed by the moon to be a woman by day, and a wolf by night.

If you listen close to the old timers by the firesides in the taverns, they weave tales of these foreign woman, these Amazons who have fought against the shadows and darkness that lives in this land, battled dragons, demons, vampire lords and the darkness it’s self..

What is known for truth is this: The wolves in the forests are clever. Traps are useless, and hunters never return when they venture into the Temple's grounds.
